Summertime is here, as well as vacations and probable vacation trips. It is often difficult, on a trip, to observe the Lord’s Day in worship and to find a sound church of Christ wherever we go.
Planning ahead to search out sound churches is very helpful. There are church of Christ directories available in our church office.
Many just skip going to church as if we are on vacation from the Lord. Paul exhorts and instructs Timothy as well as us in 2 Timothy 4:2 to be “ready in season and out of season.” Paul is, of course, instructing Timothy to preach whether it is convenient or not and even when he was taking time for himself. The principle is still there that we as Christians, wherever we are, whether on vacation, at work, or engaged in some type of recreation, need to be ready to give a reason (defense) for the hope within us (1 Peter 3:15), being willing to share Jesus as we live, in every occasion and everywhere we are. We need to keep before us, as well, that just because we are away from our fellow Christians does not mean that we forget to be the example of Christian behavior we should be.
Sometimes when we leave our home congregation we also skip the need to contribute to its support as though we can be excused from our responsibility on the day or days we are gone. What is needed is, if possible, to give your contribution in advance or make it up when you return.
Further, if we are camping or just unable to find a church nearby to worship with, it is important to set aside a time for study, prayer, singing, and the Lord’s Supper. In these situations, the taking of the Lord’s Supper should be in a worship situation and not observed in an insincere manner. It’s important to remember “where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst” (Matthew 18:20).
So, then, remembering Jesus when we are gone is important. ![]()

Psalm 46:1-3 – “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change and though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains quake at its swelling pride.”
